The idea of creating a class Web site had been brewing in my head for some time when, in the fall of 2003, I had a conversation with Jim Allen at the Wakefield 50 Year Celebration during which Jim echoed the need for such an effort. The idea sat dormant until planning for the 35th class reunion began in the summer of 2004. Properly motivated I created and launched the site in July of that year.
This Web site represents the realization of a vision I had of what a class Web site could be. I never envisioned the site as simply a page or two of information about the class. I saw it as a place where classmates could come to re-connect, rediscover and actually experience the authentic sense of community that existed during our years at Wakefield. I am blessed to have a number of fellow classmates who share that vision and who help cover the cost of the site.
Maintaining the site requires some expense - about $380 per year to be exact. While there are probably some host sites that offer a more economical vehicle for our class site, the thought of transporting all of the site content to another location is daunting, if it is even possible. There is a lot of content on this site - 33 pages of content to be exact. At this point I am not properly motivated to undertake such an effort. So, it is what it is.
We could always use more people who are willing to help support the site financially. Even with the support of a few friends, the bulk of the financial burden of maintaining the site still largely resides in my wallet. If you are willing to chip in $20 per year to help fund the site you can make a donation via PayPal by clicking on the Donate button below. Or, if you prefer you can mail me a check. Shoot me an email at asteele6@verizon.net and I'll tell you where to mail the check. Smaller (or larger!) donation amounts are welcome, of course.
FYI - if accounts receivable exceed payments due for the year, I will keep the surplus funds in an account earmarked for site support. So far, that hasn't been an issue. ;-)
